Southern Starlight
A vintage-inspired photo booth built like a real portrait studio — physical controls, instant prints, beautiful presentation, and just enough hidden technology to make the magic repeatable.
South Carolina · Computer Science · Making things
I’m Brady Fulmer — a computer science teacher, builder, designer, and persistent tinkerer. I spend a lot of time asking, “Why does this have to work that way?”
I teach high school computer science and spend an arguably unreasonable amount of time thinking about software, interfaces, systems, photography, printers, cars, electricity, food, and the tiny annoyances that everyone else seems to accept as normal.
The common thread is simple: I like understanding how things work, then rebuilding them so they make more sense.
Good tools should feel obvious after you’ve used them once.
The complicated part can be complicated. The interface shouldn’t be.
I’d rather prototype an actual system than admire a perfect mockup.
Some are projects. Some are experiments. Some are ideas that got a little out of hand.

Page layout rethought from the printer out — Publisher and InDesign reimagined. Margins come from the printer you’re sending to, yet you can still design right up to the unprintable edge when you mean to. Born from formatting everyone else’s documents for a Canon TC-21, banners especially.

An email app for someone with too many addresses. Each one keeps its own color, and a reply goes out from the address the message came to. Built for one person, used every day.
Education · AI · Computer Science
Exploring how students can learn modern AI by actually building models and systems, rather than treating AI as a magic textbox that produces essays.
Community · Web
A community site for Wagener, South Carolina: the news, weather, events, and resources a small town needs, all in one place.
Fiction · Publishing · Theo Ward
I also write fiction as Theo Ward, publishing my books through Crescent Cities Publishing — my own independent publishing imprint. The site is the home for the stories; Amazon is where the books live.
Book 1 · The Guided Series
Ellis Ward has never been hungry, lost, or afraid. The Guide handles everything, until the system goes dark.
Book 2 · The Guided Series
The system is gone. In the aftermath of the Guide’s collapse, humanity faces its most terrifying challenge yet: freedom.
Book 3 · The Guided Series
Two years after the outage, the idea is spreading: what if the Guide were a choice? Then the architect of the Guide arrives.
This site is intentionally not a blog with a posting schedule. Think of it more like a window into whatever I’m currently figuring out.
The printer is not a detail. The paper is the product.
Syntax is the easy part. The interesting bit is learning to decompose a problem.
Usually somewhere around version 14 of the storage box.
The best technology is the kind that disappears into the experience.
